Cosplayer of the Week: Kim Kine

Good day, everyone! I hope your week has been a fantastic one! I apologize for not having a Cosplayer of the Week last week, I was hunting for super dope cosplayers to feature for the next few weeks. Fortunately, I found incredible cosplayers during my search and one of the first ones I found was actually a cosplayer I have followed for quite some time! Her name is Kim Kine and she tackles so many projects, it inspires me to work even harder on my own goals since she always puts forth such great effort!

I hope you enjoy our interview with the wonderful Kim Kine!

The Geek Lyfe: Although I have been a fan of yours for quite some time, there may be a few Geek Lyfers who have not seen your work before, would you be alrightbattle_pocahontas_by_kimkine-d9b1acx introducing yourself?

Hi! I’m Kim Kine, a healer by day and a cosplayer and fashion/beauty/lifestyle blogger the rest of the time.

The Geek Lyfe: How long have you been into cosplay and what led you down this path?

I have been attending cons for 3-4 years and was always in awe of the beautiful costumes I saw every year. I have always loved using my hands to create so last year (2015) I decided to take the plunge and construct my first costume from scratch! This was my Jaycee (Tekken Tag Tournament 2) cosplay and I didn’t even use a pattern, which now baffles me. Since then I’ve made 5 more!

The Geek Lyfe: What has been your favorite moment?

I would love to say something about a heartwarming moment involving a child at a con, but sadly most of the characters I choose to cosplay at cons are not that well known and I don’t often get recognised. However, my favourite moment has been when I showed my cosplay skills at a job interview! Read the whole story here: https://goo.gl/sRfrNI (I ended up getting the job offer!)

The Geek Lyfe: What was the worst day for you in your cosplay career, what happened, and how did you deal with it.

I’m happy to say that I have never had a single bad experience!

The Geek Lyfe: When you aren’t doing this, what do you do in your spare time?

I’m the type of person that is constantly in flux with all my interests. This year I have started yoga, meditation, lifting weights and dancing again. Add this to blogging, fashion shoots, social events, board game days and keeping my social media channels alive, I keep myself pretty busy. Not to mention I work as a chiropractor healing people most days!

The Geek Lyfe: What geek medium(Video Games, Comic Books, Novels, Movies etc.) made the biggest impact on your life and why?

I’m not sure if this counts as a typical ‘geek’ medium, but I grew up reading fantasy. My first fantasy obsession began with Tamora Pierce’s (I’m so excited to see her at Supanova 16!) the Song of the Lioness series when I was around 8 years old. My all time favourite fantasy series is a tie between Patrick Rothfuss’s Kingkiller chronicles and Brandon Sanderson’s Stormlight Archives. These authors provide me with a profound sense of wonder and excitement, without stressing me out which is what tends to happen when I play games!

In terms of anime, Samurai Champloo and Cowboy Bebop have had a huge influence over my taste in music. Nujabes (RIP) is now one of my favourite artists. Just have a listen to one of my favourite tracks, Feather: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jfFTT3iz740

A tie between Jaycee and my battle Pocahontas!

The Geek Lyfe: If you could choose one fictional character from any fandom to come into our world and be your best friend, who would you choose and why?

Either Kaladin, the honourable and spunky (in my mind anyway) spearman from Sanderson’s Stormlight Archives or Faye from Cowboy Bebop because she’s ridiculously feisty.

The Geek Lyfe: Do you have any projects in the near future we should be excited to see?

I’ve been planning to do a version of Chun Li for ages because fighting girls are my thang. I would also love to do Faye from Bebop too.

The Geek Lyfe: What advice do you have for any aspiring cosplayers out there?

Seriously just start and don’t be afraid to ask advice from fellow cosplayers! Life is too short to hold back.
