List of Best Movie Endings!

It’s my favorite season guys. Oscar Season. That means wonderful, hard hitting movies one after the other. After seeing the glory that was Night Crawler last night I have decided to compile a list of movies that have the most memorable and fantastic endings of all time. In my opinion (lol).

There are many films that have great endings but these are the all-star V.IP. conclusions for me. To me movies don’t necessarily have to have great endings to be outstanding films; however films with exceptional endings do tend to have a lasting impression on me. For this list I won’t spoil the endings but I’ll give a brief summary of the movie and why the ending was so great. Now let’s take a look at who made it on the list!

Top 5!

Fight Club (1999):

fightclubending

-What it’s about: Two men create an underground boxing club. Chaos ensues when the club grows into an organized crime syndicate.

-Why the ending is awesome: Fight Club has an ending that could be predicted if watched VERY carefully. However for first time watchers and those who haven’t read the book it will be a complete surprise. If you like movies with lots of hidden clues that hint at the ending, then Fight Club is the film for you. Also “Where Is My Mind” by The Pixies is perhaps the best ending song for a movie ever.

Oldboy (2003):

oldboy

-What it’s about: A businessman named Oh Dae-su is trapped against his will in a hotel room for 15 years. Then one day he is finally released without warning. Oh Dae-su will stop at nothing to find out who imprisoned him and why.

-Why the ending is awesome: The whole mystery of Oh Dae-su’s imprisonment is explained in great detail. Sometimes a mystery film can leave one too many ambiguous plot points which can leave one feeling quite unsatisfied. That does not happen in the slightest with Oldboy. Park Chan-Wook’s thriller masterpiece gives you the disturbing and emotionally devastating answers you want while leaving one important plot point up to the viewer.

Night Crawler (2014):

nightcrawler

-What it’s about: Lou Bloom is a loner without a job. One night he sees a violent car wreck and stumbles upon the little known profession of night crawling. He becomes hooked to the dark underbelly of the local media world and will do anything to get the perfect shot.

-Why the ending is awesome: The best thing about Night Crawler is how harshly it presents reality. Lou Bloom does not learn any life lessons by the end of this film. The media world does not get any less corrupt with him being a part of it. He stays exactly the way he is and that to me was absolutely wonderful.

Killer Joe (2011)

Killer_Joe_Poster

-What it’s about: A family in the south hires hit man Killer Joe to kill their estranged mother in order to receive her life insurance. The plan backfires and ends up costing the family more than they had anticipated.

-Why the ending is awesome: Killer Joe is based on the acclaimed play by Tracy Letts, the man who also wrote August Osage County. With this being said you can expect to see the most devastating dinner scene of all time in Killer Joe. Two words, fried chicken.

Saw (2004)

Saw-1-Movies-Complete-Guide

-What it’s about:  A sadistic not quite serial killer chains two men in a rundown bathroom and forces them to play along with his games. Since their lives and the lives of their families are at risk they have no choice but to play along.

-Why the ending is awesome: Now I’m not usually a fan of slasher-gore-torture flicks but Saw is an exception. With more twists and turns than a roller coaster, Saw kept me guessing right up to the very end. Even when I thought I had the killer’s identity pinned down Saw decides to throw the world’s biggest curveball and blind side you with awesome.

Runner Ups:

-Shutter Island (2010)

-Filth (2013)

-Moon (2009)

-Frailty (2001)

-Perfume (2001)

Well that’s my list! Have you seen all of these films? Do you agree with my list? What movies would you add? Tell me in the comments!

Happy watching and Happy Halloween!
