Top Three Games That Will Always Stay with Me

There are some games we cannot forget. Some games created like art, or a song that plays over and over in our head. For me, games are definitely a form of art, and like a book or movie they can make us cry, laugh and shrink beneath our duvet covers in horror. Ask any gamer, they will have a favourite, maybe even a top three that they will never forget or still play today. Here, I bring you my Top Three that I highly recommend.

1) Beyond Good and Evil

My favourite game of all time. I first watched my sister’s boyfriend play Beyond Good & Evil when I was about twelve years old. When he let me have a go, I only got so far before I was stuck, but I was completely bewitched by the music and the world of Hillys. The story follows Jade, a twenty one year old journalist and her uncle Pey’J as they go rooting into a conspiracy infecting their peaceful mining planet. Although in its atmosphere and style the game seems a little Japanese-esque, the game was made by Michel Ancel, creator of the Rayman games. It wasn’t initially very popular but since then it’s gathered a cult following and has been re-released in HD. Since completing the game I have been tracking Ancel’s movements like a deranged FBI agent, and cursing out loud whenever I hear of him producing something besides Beyond Good and Evil 2.

2) The Dragon Age Series

I played Dragon Age Origins a long time ago, and loved it! Or rather I loved it up until the point where I got dumped by Alistair, one of the companions in front of everyone. Suffice to say, I was mortified. I did another playthrough, determined to correct my mistakes, starting almost on the exact same day. I chose elf as my race this time around only I didn’t know you couldn’t marry Alistair as an elf, only stay as his mistress! However, I did come out with both Zevran (the assassin elf!) and Alistair in love with me which was a happy mistake. Dragon Age 2 was missing a lot of the things that made Origins so wonderful, but being able to talk made a nice change and once again, the characterisation and romances were brilliant. Inquisition as we all know was incredible, but I don’t think I could call one of these my favourites. They’re all separate stories with characters that I will never forget. Truthfully, these games touched my heart, and if you enjoy a bit of role playing or D&D, this series is for you.

3) Mirror’s Edge

I can’t think of another game that was like Mirror’s Edge when it came out. Faith’s story was brilliantly crafted and the first person parkour was something never seen before. Although more linear than the games I usually go for, I still have some of the soundtrack on my phone and for that reason it goes on my list today. It was something I had never played before, and although at times it was absolutely infuriating; and I honestly didn’t know whether to run or shoot and set up Black Ops style, there were some great scenic moments when you could just run and feel free.

These games are the ones that really resonated with me, as I’m sure other fans have experienced with games such as Kingdom Hearts, and Final Fantasy. Good story-telling is still at the heart of a good game in my opinion and we need games like these that pull at our heart strings. For anyone looking to play other games such as these, I recommend Fable, Beyond Two Souls, The Last of Us and The Walking Dead. Bring tissues.
