Cosplayer of the Week: Moonychka Cosplay
I can not believe how far and wide cosplay has spread. I still remember the days where cosplaying in public was met with awkward stares and the idea of dropping a ton of money on a costume of a fictional character baffled so many. Yet here we stand today in a world where cosplay has been embraced far and wide from the coast of Long Beach California to Saint Petersburg of Russia.
Speaking of Saint Petersburg Russia, our cosplayer of the week is Moonchka Cosplay who hails from there! She adores Sailormoon and tries to find new ways to cosplay her at every convention. Alongside Sailor Moon she also has a love for DC Villians like Harley Quinn and Disney Princesses such as Aurora! I am so grateful that she took the time to answer a few questions about her and her cosplay! It is also great to hear about cosplay experiences from different parts of the world!
Enjoy!
The Geek Lyfe: There may be a few Geek Lyfers who have not seen your work before, would you be alright introducing yourself?
Moonychka Cosplay: Yep! 🙂 Hi everyone! My name is Mary, I’m 23 years. I live in Saint Petersburg, Russia. I love cosplay so much, especially Sailor Moon and Harley Quinn.
TGL: How long have you been into cosplay and what led you down this path?
MC: I have been doing cosplay since 2012. In the past I love anime and I was a huge fan Sailor Moon. So I was created my original character – Sailor Sun. I wrote fanfiction about her. And I dreamed about to cosplay her. Finally, my dream came true and this character was my first cosplay)
TGL: What has been your favorite moment?
MC: I think, it’s a cosplay festival M.ani.fest 2015, when I was in a performance with my SAILOR MOON TEAM! It was wonderful and we won 3rd place!
TGL: What was the worst day for you in your cosplay career, what happened, and how did you deal with it?
MC: Honestly, I don’t remember this. Cosplay is a lovely hobby for me, and not a career. And I get only pleasure from it.
TGL: When you aren’t doing this, what do you do in your spare time?
MC: Oooooooo, I have a lot of hobbies, so I don’t have free time XDD Firstly, I’m a photographer. It’s my work. Then I’m a specialist of social media marketing. It’s my second work XD I’m a freelancer) Also I write a novel, cook delicious food, work out in the gym, read books, stream games and etc. and meet with my friends. I love play games, but recently I’m so tired and I don’t have any time for it
TGL: What geek medium(Video Games, Comic Books, Novels, Movies etc.) made the biggest impact on your life and why?
MC: So difficult question…I think games, books, and anime. Because I’ve been playing games since I was three, I’ve been watching anime since I was four, and I’ve been reading books since I was five. All my life these three mediums have been an important part of my life. They immersed me in other unreal worlds and inspired me. I think, thanks to them, I have a good imagination.
TGL: You can bring one fictional character to this world to be your best friend for life. Who is it and why?
MC: Only friend? Not a boyfriend? XDD Oooook… Perhaps, Sailor Moon. I love her and we have the same character. And she has magic power, hohoho!
TGL: Do you have any projects in the near future we should be excited to see?
MC: Of course! Now I making Thumbelina’s dress from cartoon Thumbelina 1994 year. Then in summer I will cosplay Sailor Aluminum Siren from Sailor Moon, Ty Lee from Avatar, Judy Hopps from Zootopia and new costumes Harley Quinn and Sailor Moon XD I have HUGE plans, but I don’t have enough money for it XD
TGL: Out of the costumes you have done in the past, which one has been the most difficult and why?
MC: Harley Quinn from Injustice. Harley Quinn’s costume is my headache XD It was really difficult for me. At first, the jacket. I made it from leather. And it was my first and last experience working with. In the second, many other accessories, for example, 3 daggers, belts, spikes on the shoes, etc. In the end, wig. However, my best friend and fairy of wigs Leto An help me and made cool wig. THANKS TO HER!
TGL: What advice do you have for any aspiring cosplayers out there?
MC: Never give up! And do those characters that you really love!
We want to give a huge shout out again to Moonychka Cosplay for taking the time to answer a few of our humble questions! She is amazing in every way and deserves your follow! Be sure to check up on her shenanigans on her Facebook page!
