Five Postmodern Jukebox Songs To Snap Suspenders To
Are you like me and believe wholeheartedly that society needs more pompadours, suspenders, dances, and big bands? Long have I listened to old school crooners such as Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Perry Como and was sent to heaven by the majesty of Ella Fitzgerald and Billie Holiday. All while dreading the overwhelmingly annoying, yet catchy pop music that the radio vomited. Salvation came when I discovered a fantastic YouTube channel that took these modern songs and gave them an old school twist! Whenever I am up to my elbows in reading chapters upon chapters of Berserk, trying my luck at some online casino, or writing I know what to play in order to have a great time!
They are Postmodern Jukebox and they have revolutionized the music scene by merging indie singers, giving them a pop song, and then slapping an old school feel on it. I listen to them constantly and wanted to share with you all some of my all time favorite songs.
California Dreamin – Scott Bradlee & Addie Hamilton
It does not matter where they are, the PMJ folks know how to put on a good show. Addie Hamilton got together with Scott Bradlee for a Facebook live stream and covered California Dreamin and their cover blew my mind. I have this song on repeat because of how great it is! Everything from the actual skill of the performers to the jokes passed between the two of them really captures the essence of their brand.
Just Like Heaven – Natalie Angst
Natalie Angst has such a classic look and sound that transports you back to a time of up dos and fedoras. I challenge you to listen to this woman and not fall in love with her because it is near impossible. For me, there honestly is no original version song, just this one. The band matches her performance to the point where your soul just melts from how fantastic everything is. I legitimately want to slow dance with someone to this song because it is that good.
I’m Not The Only One – Casey Abrams
There are plenty of incredible female singers that have graced the cameras of Postmodern Jukebox but for the guys, my favorite performer is none other than Casey Abrams. This man has such energy, personality, and talent that it is hard not to like him. His voice is so rich and deep that adds soul to many of his songs, not to mention he has a dope beard! One of the best aspects of him is that he constantly improvs during recordings which can be confirmed by the many sudden smiles on the musician’s faces as he begins his shenanigans.
 Habits – Haley Reinhart
We can not talk about Postmodern Jukebox and then skip Haley Reinhart. She is one of the queens of PMJ because her deep, sultry voice can do magical things in front of a mic. It is always interesting going back and watching her old American idol performances, find out she got booted, and then come to PMJ to bring the house down. A lot of her content are the best videos of their channel just based on how unique her sound is.
Ex’s and Oh’s – Elle King
Elle King is a pint sized wonder who did such a great job with her cover of Ex’s and Oh’s that I can not wait for her to come back to PMJ for even more content! She has such a powerful voice, range, and the way she navigates through the song in such a playful manner is astounding! Then mid way through the song she decides to get super playful was just too much fun!
Bonus
Something about musicians just having a jam session randomly in an airport just seems so incredible, not to mention when Haley randomly appears and adds in her voice. It really shows off the spirit of the performers and how close they all are as friends! While I don’t believe this is an official PMJ video, it still feature a good amount of the crew!
I hope you enjoyed our Five Postmodern Jukebox Songs To Snap Suspenders To! I love and adore these songs and I hope you will as well! Be sure to check out more of their content on their YouTube channel and website!
