Sailor Doom Slays Los Angeles Comic Con 2019

L.A.’s biggest and greatest celebration of all things geeky known as Los Angeles Comic Con or L.A. Comic Con for short, formally known as Comikaze Expo, Stan Lee’s Comikaze Expo, and then Stan Lee’s Comic Con, is a three-day-long convention jammed packed with comics, gaming, sci-fi, horror, pop culture, and more! 
This was my sixth year attending L.A. Comic Con and it was definitely my busiest yet! I felt like I was running around like a chicken with my head cut off! But that didn’t stop me from having so much fun. There was so much to do and see! I wasn’t sure where to begin.
We arrived on Friday afternoon around 1:30 pm, thirty minutes after the convention had opened for the day. I was surprised that getting into the convention wasn’t too crazy. I only had to wait in line for a short amount of time to go through security. After that, I breezed through the badge pickup line and picked up my press badge. I heard that entry and badge pickup on Saturday was absolute chaos. Some attendees had to wait in line for over two hours. I would recommend if you can pick up your badge either Thursday evening or Friday because Saturday is usually the biggest and craziest day.Â
Once you pick up your badge you head up the stairs or escalators and into the South Hall which is the main exhibit hall. There is nothing more magical than when you first step into the hall. It’s overwhelming with so many sights and sounds. It’s definitely hard to figure out where to begin! Luckily, the staff handed out detailed maps of the convention center to every attendee to make sure no one would miss out on what they wanted to see.
We spent Friday walking around and getting a feel for the place. We checked out the various vendors and exhibitors. There were over 800 hundred exhibitors! Some of the booths that we stopped by were the Hot Topic, UCC Distributing, FYE, and Webtoon, booths. They had everything right up my geeky alley from comics to Funko pops, to plushies, and some really cool figurines as well. I even met Cuppy The Good Advice Cupcake.
Saturday was the crazy day and the day that attendees attended the most! I’m not sure how many people attended on Saturday but the convention hall was filled wall to wall with people. It felt like the con organizers decided to cram everything into Saturday instead of spreading the main events out over the weekend. The entire convention pretty much happened on Saturday, like all of the huge main stage panels that you didn’t want to miss out on. We saw the SpongeBob SquarePants reunion panel, The Kim Possible Reunion Panel, The Office Reunion Panel, Rob Liefeld gave a very heartfelt panel on remembering Stan Lee, and we also saw Kevin Smith and Jason Mewes talk about their new movie Jay and Silent Bob Reboot.
L.A. Comic is definitely known to get some big-name people for their convention. They got special guests like Elijah Wood (Lord of the Rings, Wilfred), Ron Perlman (Hellboy, Sons of Anarchy), Tom Kenny (SpongeBob SquarePants), Drake Bell, (Drake & Josh, Ultimate Spiderman) Will Friedle (Boy Meets World, Kim Possible), and the My Hero Academia Cast, and so much more!
We also ran into so many amazing cosplayers such as Amber Arden, Jimmy Sherfy, Rhapsody Artajo, and Alicia Marie. My favorite part of the day was watching the Cosplay National Championship Presented by Disney’s Maleficent: Mistress of Evil. All of the entrees were absolutely breathtaking! You could tell that everyone put a lot of time and effort into each and every one of their designs.Â
Sunday, the last day of the convention is the biggest day for the kids that attend L.A. Comic-Con because it’s Trick-or-Treating day! Kids can go around from booth to booth and collect candy from the exhibiters. It’s L.A.’s biggest and safest indoor Trick-or-Treating event. All of the Trick-or-Treating is then followed by a Kid’s Costume Contest which is absolutely adorable and worth seeing! I loved it.Â
Overall, I would say that L.A. Comic-Con is worth the $75.00 for a weekend pass. You’ll meet a lot of great people, see a lot of awesome things, and have a great time. There’s something there for everyone! I can’t wait to see what next year has in store for us.
