I’m a Behemoth, an S Ranker Monster, but Mistaken for a Cat, I Live as an Elf Girl’s Pet (Manga Review)
I’m a Behemoth, an S Ranker Monster, but Mistaken for a Cat, I Live as an Elf Girl’s Pet has to be one of the longest manga titles I have seen in a long time but boy is it fun! I’m a Behemoth, an S Ranker Monster, but Mistaken for a Cat, I Live as an Elf Girl’s Pet is a new series by Yen Press, the Art is by Taro Shinonome, and the original story is by Nozomi Ginyoku.
After dying in a fight against the forces of evil, a knight found himself reincarnated as one of the most powerful monsters in the world: a behemoth! Problem is, he has to grow up before he can really strut his stuff, and a baby behemoth looks an awful lot like…a housecat?! And when an elf adventurer decides to take him in, she may need his help as much as he needs hers! – Yen Press
The story is fun as it forces a powerful beast into the size of a small kitten named Tama who is then adopted by an adventurer named Aria. Almost immediately I use sold on the concept alone because there was so much to work with and hope for from the series in terms of humorous situations and lessons in humility. On top of that, Aria is a young and busty elf girl and the manga frequently reminds you of her chest size on almost every page in typical anime ways. this earned the series a Parental Advisory on the main cover.
What I find most appealing about I’m a Behemoth, an S Ranker Monster, but Mistaken for a Cat, I Live as an Elf Girl’s Pet is the mystery behind Tama who was once a brave knight but now is a super-powered behemoth that has the body of a kitten. Not much is known about Tama’s backstory other than he had a strong sense of justice and now can consume the abilities of defeated monsters. It is very similar to That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime in the way that a cutesy creature has an abundance of power but there isn’t a huge power leap yet. Tama focuses on hiding his strength in order to not be slain so he deliberately holds back but even when he does try his hardest, he doesn’t always win meanwhile Rimuru from That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime uses little to no effort in order to dispatch foes.
There is a good deal of combat and gore which I appreciated since I had a fear that the entire story would be focused on awkward situations of lust between Tama and Aria. Aria is seen as competent and has her own secrets about her that intrigues Tama to stay. Together they grow stronger trying to achieve their own individual goals while becoming closer companions. Along the way more and more characters are introduced that are unique and charismatic enough to make a colorful world.
My personal favorite is one named Anna who is this buff fighter who is incredibly kind to his friends and wears the most revealing outfit in the entire manga thus far. In many ways I’m a Behemoth, an S Ranker Monster, but Mistaken for a Cat, I Live as an Elf Girl’s Pet is worth picking up if you are interested in laughs, fantasy, and a bit of lewd content! If you find yourself with sexual content then this may not be for you. Be sure to check out Yen Press‘ website for more information!
