Wolfwalkers Is a Splendid Animated Film You Need to See!
I was not prepared for how great of a film Wolfwalkers was! Everything about this film was nothing short of fantastic.
In a time of superstition and magic, a young apprentice hunter, Robyn Goodfellowe, journeys to Ireland with her father to wipe out the last wolf pack. While exploring the forbidden lands outside the city walls, Robyn befriends a free-spirited girl, Mebh, a member of a mysterious tribe rumored to have the ability to transform into wolves by night. As they search for Mebh’s missing mother, Robyn uncovers a secret that draws her further into the enchanted world of the WOLFWALKERS and risks turning into the very thing her father is tasked to destroy.
First off, the animation is stunning as it has an aesthetic that is refreshing and colorful as they showcase the beauty of nature and the bleakness of civilization. When they feature characters who are terrible, it showcases through their physical traits. Crooked teeth, small pupils, dirty, and more. Meanwhile, the good characters look heroic, unique, and pristine that reflects their moral code. Specifically, I appreciated the transition of wolf walking. You get to see the soul of the walker get pulled from their physical form and take shape into a wolf. It was a sight to behold that got me hooked instantly!
Second, the voice acting was superb as they cast Sean Bean as the stoic, caring hunter Bill whose fatherly voice invoked so much emotion during trying scenes. I enjoyed the acting of Honor Kneafsey who voices the main character, Robyn as she bounced off Eva Whittaker who played the mischievous Mebh. They captured the wholesomeness of a child’s friendship.
Third, the plot itself was so pure as it gave voice to the classic concern of maintaining the beauty of nature. It is a tale as old as time that we still fail to heed but Wolfwalkers will plant the seed into all little ones who watch it so that they too can understand the importance of respecting the wilds and all of the life that calls it home.
