Cosplayer Of The Month: Heartless Aquarius

Cosplayer Of The Month: Heartless Aquarius

This year we here at The Geek Lyfe decided to tackle every convention Arizona had to offer and write reviews for every convention, take photos of cosplayers, and interview vendors to help promote everyone. Unfortunately during the hustle and bustle of conventions things tend to slip through the cracks despite our best intentions.

Heartless Aquarius was a prime example of this as we took an awesome photo of her at a convention, informed her that she could find it on our website and then the photo was corrupted and never reuploaded. When we ran into her at another convention she let us know how disappointed she was by not including our photos and needless to say we felt like assholes!

Thankfully, she was such a wonderful and sweet person who overlooked it and we ended up righting our wrong by not only uploading her previous photo but also new ones! She was delighted and as we got to know her better we knew she was too awesome to just leave alone and so we asked her for an interview!

She accepted and we’re proud to now bring you our interview with Heartless Aquarius!

The Geek Lyfe: Although I am a fan of yours, there may be a few Geek Lyfers who have not seen your work before, would you be alright introducing yourself?

Heartless Aquarius: Of course! I’m Emma Roberts but I go as HeartlessAquarius online. I was born and raised in Scottsdale, Arizona. I started cosplaying in 2008 but I’ve always loved dressing up for Halloween!IMG_5391

GL: I’ve followed you for sometime yet never learned the origin story! Could you tell us how you got into cosplay and what led you to where you are now?

HA: Well, as I said, I’ve always LOVED Halloween as a kid. However, there is an event that led to me cosplaying. Long ago, my family was strolling along the San Diego convention center(we were there for vacation). We saw a line of about 20-30 people and one of them was dressed as Link from The Legend of Zelda. It was San Diego Comic Con. We waiting in the line, got tickets, and had an amazing time. We went next year and started to dress up. We haven’t stopped cosplaying since.

GL: What has been your favorite moment so far Cosplaying?

HA: My favorite moment so far cosplaying is whenever a little kid gets excited to see me and recognize what I’m cosplaying. They always look so happy and it warms my heart every time.

GL: What is the most frustrating part?

HA: The most frustrating part is trying to finish your cosplay when the convention is the next day. Procrastination hurts!

GL: Is there one situation in your Cosplay career that makes you laugh when you look back on it? If so, what is it?

HA: I think everyone has a moment like this. Mine was back when I first started. My mom suggested that I wear makeup and I’d say, “Anime characters don’t wear makeup so I’m not going to wear makeup!” I was a pretty big tomboy back in the day.

GL: When you aren’t making costumes or making videos, what do you do in your spare time?

HA: In my spare time, I play a ton of video games and watch YouTube. I tend not to go outside unless I have to.

GL: What geek medium(Video Games, Comic Books, Novels, Movies etc.) made the biggest impact on your life and why?

HA: Video games had the biggest impact on my life. When I was a kid, I played Pokemon all the time. I would play with my brother and always try to catch all of the pokemon. I’ve played every generation of the game except Black and White. These games allowed me to meet new people, introduced me to anime which allowed me to meet many of my friends and my significant other. If I didn’t have my video games growing up, I wouldn’t be who I am today.

GL: I’ve seen and loved your Ashe cosplay! Out of the other cosplays you have done, what is your all time favorite costume?

HA: My favorite completed cosplay is my Neo cosplay from RWBY. It’s so beautiful and I tried so many new things when I made it.

GL: In an alternate universe where the world of League of Legends is real and you are in it, Teemo is coming after you. Which League of Legends character do you have as your bodyguard and why?

HA: I would probably have Braum be my bodyguard. His shield would protect me, he’s super strong, and he has the greatest mustache ever!

GL: Do you have any projects in the near future we should be excited to see?

HA: Yes! I’m currently working on a couple more Pokemon cosplays(Suicune and Leafeon) and I’m working on Callie from the game Splatoon! I’m very excited to finish them.

GL: What advice do you have for any aspiring cosplayers out there?

HA: Don’t stop cosplaying no matter what. You only improve the more you practice. Also, cosplaying has one of the most supportive communities I’ve been apart of. If you ever need help, there is always someone willing to show you the ropes.
