Chris Hemsworth answering calls in Ghostbusters
Back when the Ghostbuster’s reboot was first announced, they mentioned having gender swapped the heroes of the story to female comedians. To continue this trend, they’ve also gender swapped their receptionist by having none other than Chris Hemsworth taking their calls and helping out with paper work.
Variety was the first to report on this and here is what they had to say:
Hemsworth is set to join Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones in the movie, which hits theaters next year. Feig, whose new comedy “Spy” debuted to No. 1 at the U.S. box office, will direct the next installment in the “Ghosbusters” franchise on a script co-written by Katie Dippold.
Story details are unknown other than the reboot centers on the next generation of Ghostbusters, who happen to be female. Ivan Reitman will produce the action-comedy. Insiders say the studio went to Hemsworth very early on in the process for one of the major male roles but the Aussie actor passed because the role was too small. Since then Sony reworked the script so the part was beefed up.
Production on “Ghostbusters” to start later this summer. It arrives next summer on July 22, 2016. Known more for his action heavy role like “Thor,” “Snow White and the Huntsman” and the upcoming “In the Heart of the Sea,” Hemsworth is broadening his brand with more comedies starting with his juicy role in the upcoming “Vacation” reboot, which opens this July.
Besides “Vacation” and “In the Heart of the Sea” which bows this December, Hemsworth also has “The Huntsman,” which he is currently filming. He is repped by CAA and Roar.
Personally, I think adding Hemsworth as the receptionist is a great twist as he typically plays the macho man who needs no assistance to defend the world from great evil but a woman to fight for and a proper weapon. Having ordinary women give out orders to their employee who is built like a professional wrestler should add to the comedy and the shift in gender roles that the film is already tackling.
