Cosplay Interview: Nana Bear
Cosplay Interview: Nana Bear
One of my all time favorite aspects of the Geek community is cosplay. There is something magical about putting on a costume forged by your own hands and becoming someone else for a weekend. I’ve covered many cosplayers in the past who were all fantastic but I began to notice that I lacked ladies with a little more to love in my interviews. They, along with all other men and women who cosplay, should be equally represented!
So I looked through my list of cosplayers and one of the first ones to come to mind was none other than Nana Bear herself. Nana Bear is a cosplayer who has absolutely no issues with working her curves to be sultry and often times results in being far more alluring than most mainstream cosplayers due to the sheer amount of confidence she wields. I reached out to her for an interview and expected a huge delay due to having 50,000+ likes on her page, and was shocked by how quickly she responded!
I hope you enjoy my interview with Nana Bear!
The Geek Lyfe: Although I am a fan of yours, there may be a few Geek Lyfers who have not seen your work before, would you be alright introducing yourself?
Nana Bear: Hi I’m Nana Bear I’m 23 years old I’ve been cosplaying since 2011 and I love anime, comics and video games.
TGL: I’ve followed you for sometime yet never learned the origin story! Could you tell us how you got into cosplay and what led you to where you are now?
NB: I’ve always loved anime when I was a child without even knowing it was anime! I frequently went all out when it came to Halloween until when a friend introduced me to cosplay I went crazy! Since then I have done multiple outfits and love it!
TGL: What has been your favorite moment so far cosplaying?
NB: My favorite cosplay would actually have to be all of them! If I had to choose a favorite, it would probably be Alucard from the Anime Hellsing. Oh and for the cosplay moment, it would have to be when I was snow white and a little girl hugged me and called me gorgeous. I’m not sure what it was but I just felt so loved!
TGL: What is the most frustrating part?
NB: The most frustrating part would have to be taking the outfit off when I’m so tired! (Haha)
TGL: Is there one situation in your Cosplay career that makes you laugh when you look back on it? If so, what is it?
NB: Honestly? I once accidentally flashed a photographer during a photoshoot. (Haha) She looked at me and said “I am so sorry, but your boob is out” and I was responded “Oh…okay”. She blushed and was so cute about it. XD That memory always makes me laugh because I was crazy embarrassed internally but acted all tough externally.
TGL: When you aren’t doing making costumes or making videos, what do you do in your spare time?
NB: I love to cook and ride my bike! 🙂
TGL: What geek medium(Video Games, Comic Books, Novels, Movies etc.) made the biggest impact on your life and why?
NB: ANIME!!!!! I’m not quite sure what it is, but I can just relate to so many characters from my favorite shows!
TGL: I have a few female friends who have more to love and love to cosplay but refuse to go after the cosplays they’d love to do because of their weight or body type. You are a curvy woman yet are brimming with such confidence and seem to embrace your beauty to the point where it’s even more attractive than many other body types. Where do you find such confidence and did you always feel this way or did some event in your life cause this?
NB: It actually took me quite sometime but cosplay basically pushed me into being confident about myself. Mainly because I felt like I was no longer myself and became the character when I would cosplay.
TGL: You must assemble a team to take over the world, which three fictional characters from any universe do you choose to be by your side?
NB: If I had to choose my team, I would have to go with Vegeta, Alucard, and Yoko!
TGL: Do you have any projects in the near future we should be excited to see?
NB: I’m planning a couple of comic characters but… it’s a surprise. 😉
TGL: What advice do you have for aspiring cosplayers?
NB: I would say, do it for fun. Make sure you cosplay for yourself and not to make others happy. That is the way to go if you want to enjoy being a cosplayer.
I want to give a huge thank you to Nana Bear for taking the time to respond! She is lovely in every sense, incredibly popular, and yet she still took the time to answer all of our questions within the same day I sent them over! Please please please go and follow her work!
