Cosplayer of the Month: Sara Moni
Sara Moni is/was a unicorn for me when it came to the cosplay community. The first time I saw her, I was awestruck by how incredible her cosplay was and her own natural beauty that, though she stood only a few feet away, I couldn’t muster the courage to utter a word. One moment she was checking her phone and the next, she was off doing more con shenanigans. The next dozen times I saw her, I had my courage but never had the chance talk with her as she was always crowded by folks, on break relaxing, or on the opposite end of the convention.
The more I researched Sara, the more I came to regret that initial interaction(or lack there of) since I found out just how talented of a cosplayer and model she was. Not only did she attend back to back conventions but she usually came with a new costume, treated everyone she met with kindness, did photo shoots like a champ and then still made time to hang out with friends and family.
How she has time to be so incredible and not go insane is beyond me and is one of the reasons I wanted to interview her! Thankfully she was incredibly kind and answered a few of our questions (We’re totally not worthy by the way!)! I hope you enjoy!
The Geek Lyfe: How long have you been into cosplay and what led you down this path?
Sara Moni: I started cosplaying regularly in 2010 and my first cosplay was a version of Alice.I joined the Marvel charity costuming group, the Arizona Avengers, in 2012.
TGL: Â What has been your favorite costume?
SM: My favorite costume is probably Silk or Wasp!
TGL:Most frustrating moment in your cosplay career?
SM:Â The most frustrating would probably be a time when I was really caught up with numbers and I was feeling inadequate because I didn’t have a reach as far as others for costumes that took a lot of time and effort. I’m LONG over that phase.
TGL: When you aren’t doing this, what do you do in your spare time?
SM:Â First off, what is this spare time you speak of? ? In my spare time I love trying out new places to eat. I’m a big fan of red wine and I’m really getting into being a connoisseur of sorts! Other than that, The usual goofing around online, spending time with friends and family.
TGL:Â What geek medium(Video Games, Comic Books, Novels, Movies etc.) made the biggest impact on your life and why?
SM:Â Comic books and movies definitely made the largest impact, but animated shows as a kid really shaped me to enjoy those other outlets even more.
TGL:Â In a world where superheroes and villains exist, which one would you rather be? What kind of
power would you want and what would your name be?
SM:Â I would be more of a gray character, soldier of fortune mid-alignment anti-hero. I’d love any type of hyper-mental ability like telepathy, telekinesis, premonition, or technological fluency.
TGL:Â What advice do you have for any aspiring cosplayers out there?
SM:Â Do whatever you want! Don’t let any one, any trend or popular thing/event/character shape your decisions. Don’t let anyone tell you that you’re too ______ to do something, because you can do whatever you feel like.
I want to give a huge thank you Sara Moni for taking the time to answer a few of our questions! I personally love and respect the hell out of her and encourage you all to go and check out all the amazing content she has to offer!
My life feels a bit more complete now that I was able to interview one of my favorites!
