Cosplayer Of The Month: Alexandria The Red

Cosplayer Of The Month: Alexandria The Red

This is a topic for another day, but I want to open this article up addressing the fact that an overwhelming majority of big name cosplayers are extremely physically fit. Personally I think this is unfair because all women are beautiful and all cosplayers are wonderful! I hope this in no way, shape of form offends Alexandria or her awesome fans but one of many reasons my heart belongs to Alexandria is because she has more curves than most. She knows she may not have the exact same body type than other cosplayers and she doesn’t give a shit, which makes her even more attractive in every sense.

I originally came upon Alexandria by a friend who only supported a select group of cosplayers. I browsed her page and found a post she wrote how she knew she had more to love and that people spoke ill of her because of it. She then followed up by explaining that this did not matter to her and she would continue doing what she wanted to, no matter who approved. Which is exactly what made me such a huge fan of hers so fast and I can imagine that many of her other followers did the same.

She has over 500 thousand likes on her Facebook page and a legion of fans who support her every step of the way. I never in a million years thought she’d ever respond to my interview request and to my surprise she accepted! I was star struck for a good hour before responding.

Without further ado, here is my interview with Alexandria The Red:

The Geek Lyfe: Although I have been a fan of yours for quite some time, there may be a few Geek Lyfers who have not seen your work before, would you be alright introducing yourself?12004856_947658195293388_357784852584998813_n

Alexandria The Red: My name is Alex and I’m a 23 year old cosplayer, published model, gamer, and geek extraordinaire!

The Geek Lyfe:  How long have you been into cosplay and what led you down this path?

Alexandria The Red: I have made my own Halloween costumes since middle school but my  official discovery of cosplay was in 2011. I went to a movie premiere in a costume I made myself and other fans asked me if I cosplayed. My first convention was Wondercon 2012 and I’ve been hooked ever since!

The Geek Lyfe:  What has been your favorite moment?

Alexandria The Red: My favorite cosplay moments involve children. I volunteered my time at a charity event last Christmas as Queen Elsa. The kids were so sweet and they really enjoyed the

The Geek Lyfe: Most frustrating?

Alexandria The Red: My most frustrating moments stem from sewing problems. When I present a finished product, people don’t see the blood sweat and tears that went into it. In reality, I probably cry a few times before I finish a costume!

The Geek Lyfe: At what moment did you decide to transition from having Cosplay as a hobby to being a Professional Cosplayer. How did you go about it from a business standpoint?

Alexandria The Red: I wouldn’t say that there was a particular moment where I decided I would take it more seriously. Because I really just focused on making cool cosplays and doing photo shoots. That formula just happened to increase my numbers. Once I reached a few thousand followers I realized that this could be a career. And from then on, I worked with that mindset.

12006212_945951102130764_1990362013550621930_nThe Geek Lyfe: What geek medium(Video Games, Comic Books, Novels, Movies etc.) made the biggest impact on your life and why?

Alexandria The Red: I would say that books and movies have made the biggest impact on me. As a child you couldn’t get me to go anywhere without a book. When my parents grounded me, they took away my books. My love of movies comes from my dad. We saw movies almost every weekend growing up. I love the escapism and I admire the beauty of the costuming.

The Geek Lyfe: A group of renegade ninjas have you marked as their target. You take on the abilities of the main character of the last video game character you played. What was it and do you think you can survive?

Alexandria The Red: Morrigan from Dragon Age, and I would survive because magic is probably more effective than nunchucks!

The Geek Lyfe: Do you have any projects in the near future we should be excited to see?

Alexandria The Red: I am always working on so many projects but the one I’m most excited for is my upcoming website! It will have a blog, cosplay tutorials, exclusive content, and more.

The Geek Lyfe: What advice do you have for any established cosplayers out there who want to go professional?

Alexandria The Red: My advice is to not go into it with that mindset. Just hone your skills, take on projects that interest you, and your love for what you do will shine. People will take notice.

A super duper huge thank you to Alexandria The Red for taking the time to answer a few of our humble blogs question. She is amazing and all of you should check her out! All photos are from her Facebook page!
