Hey friends! Welcome to the first Cosplayer of the Week for 2017! This week goes to a super dope cosplayer by the name of Cynorme! I prided myself on having a solid knowledge of folks in the Arizona cosplay community and then was blown away when I stumbled across her page. She does such fantastic work with makeup and her costumes that it is a legit crime that more people do not know about her!
Thankfully she was open to doing an interview so I hope you enjoy:
The Geek Lyfe: Although I have been a fan of yours for quite some time, there may be a few Geek Lyfers who have not seen your work before, would you be alright introducing yourself?
Cynorme: For sure!! My name is Jeannie, although most people know me by Ren! I’m a cosplayer and now a streamer from Phoenix, Arizona.
TGL: How long have you been into cosplay and what led you down this path?
C: This is actually my… 5th year cosplaying! My first con was Saboten 2011 and I got into it because I thought my friend’s costumes looked cool and I wanted to try.
TGL: What has been your favorite moment?
C: My favorite moment would probably have to include meeting people who follow my work! I’m not that well-known so when someone comes up to me and is super excited to meet me, it makes my day!!
TGL: Most frustrating?
C: Other than costumes falling apart halfway through a day, my most frustrating moment while cosplaying would have to be making Kalista from League of Legends– which I’m sad to say I have no professional photos of! I worked on her as I was preparing to competitively act in the National Speech and Debate tournament, since Phoenix Comicon was during the long practices we had. I stayed up late to work on the costume and was up early to go to practice, which although wasn’t too wise, I still felt great about both my practice and the costume when they both finally came together!
TGL: Although I have been a fan of yours for quite some time, there may be a few Geek Lyfers who have not seen your work before, would you be alright introducing yourself?
C: When I’m not cosplaying, I’m probably watching YouTube, to be honest! I like learning new things from my favorite makeup artists, streamers, and prop makers because they really inspire me! Otherwise, I’m probably at school for Industrial Design, which does take up a lot of my time, but I really enjoy it so far!
TGL: What geek medium(Video Games, Comic Books, Novels, Movies etc.) made the biggest impact on your life and why?
C: I wouldn’t be who I am without anime! I was the weird kid in middle school who watched a bunch of anime but I didn’t care about what other people thought because I still made some pretty rad friends who also liked it! Anime gave me a unique hobby to stick with through high school and inspired me to cosplay some pretty cool things while I was still a novice.
TGL: One mentor from any universe(TV, Movie, Novel, Video game, Anime etc.) comes alive to teach you the secrets of their ways. Which one is it and why?
C: This might be a stretch, but I would love to meet and be taught by Zenyatta from Overwatch. He’s all about finding peace which is such a good message and is just such a caring hero!
TGL: Do you have any projects in the near future we should be excited to see?
C: Well, I’m actually bringing back my YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/cynormecos) in 2017! So that’ll be cool. As for cosplay, I’m hoping to finish Female Junkrat for Phoenix Comicon as well as a Widowmaker skin!!
TGL: What advice do you have for any aspiring cosplayers out there?
C: This is something that a lot of people need to learn, but don’t be intimidated by numbers! Keep doing what you’re doing and don’t let your follower count bring you down. Also, make sure you try to improve on each costume you make! Learn something new and try it, even if it doesn’t work out the first time, it’ll be absolutely worth it when you have it down.
