Cosplayer of the Week: Kheici
We are here today to bring you another wonderful human being that we have interviewed. Her name is Kheici and she is a cosplayer who is just fantastic in about every way!
TGL: What is your cosplay origin story?
Kheici: My very first cosplay was a Jade (Mortal Kombat 9) cosplay that I purchased online just for fun. I purchased it for Anime Matsuri (2018) which was a BLAST! Afterward, it just kind of became a fun addiction.
TGL: Out of all the years you have done cosplay, what has been one of your more favorite/proudest memories?
K: I would say that every time I’m able to post something and people leave their positive comments, I’m extremely proud. Of course, I’m happy and confident in my content, but seeing the positivity is always refreshing for me!
TGL: Many people online will simply see one of your images, appreciate it for the moment and move on. However, I know that a lot of care and time goes into photoshoots. Could you describe your process for a cosplay photoshoot from the concept to when it hits your fans?
K: Hmmm, it depends! If I just want to show everyone a fun picture, it could range anywhere from a bedroom selfie to me setting up box lights and a tripod. Most of my pictures are selfies/amateur photos, so I mainly just try to focus on getting the angles right! My pictures really don’t have a recurring theme in them, so I just shoot and go–it’s all for fun!
TGL: Out of all the cosplays you have ever done which one was your personal favorite even if it was not super well received by fans?
K: My favorite cosplay changes based on how I’m feeling when you ask me lol! I would say that I liked my Aerith/Aeris Gainsborough cosplay the most. I’m a huge Final Fantasy fan so when it was well-received by a lot of people, I was very pleased!
TGL: You feature a lot of awesome geeky content, what is your absolute favorite geeky medium? (Video games, anime, comics, film, etc.)
K: Video games! I’ve been playing them since I was a little girl and, until this day, remains my most favorite hobby!
TGL: Subbed or Dubbed Anime?
K: I’m not really an anime girl, so I would say dubbed just for convenience LOL!
TGL: It is apparent that you hustle to provide content for fans but when you actually have a day off, how do you spend it?
K: Usually, I play some games (MK 11, Destiny 2, etc…) with my friends, write, read, and meditate! I also like to take long walks to relax, listen to music, and play with my fur-baby. Although I do consider cosplay a hobby, so I’m probably also working on that as well.
TGL: You just radiate such confidence and the swagger of a champion. However, a lot of geeks often struggle with overwhelming self-doubt, anxiety, and depression. When you have those bad days and get down on yourself, what do you do to remind yourself that you are wonderful?
K: I did struggle with this earlier this year, and it is difficult to overcome at times. When I feel down, I just remind myself of everything I’ve been able to accomplish thus far. I also try not to be so hard on myself and remember that we’re all human at the end of the day.
I also have a really supportive mother and friends who are constantly encouraging/motivating me! I wouldn’t trade them for the world. 🙂
TGL: What is one piece of advice you wish you received when you first got into modeling/cosplay?
K: To have fun with it! Cosplay, at the end of the day, is an expression of how much you love a character. There is no right or wrong. It isn’t necessary to spend a lot of money or time on cosplay as long as you’re satisfied with it! Also, ANYONE can cosplay. Regardless of age, height, race, gender, etc. I see so many new cosplayers who are afraid of what others will think… If you like a character, cosplay them!
TGL: Where can we find you online?
K: I go by “Kheici” on Twitter and Instagram!
