Interview with Abnormal Hearts

When you walk down the aisle of a convention, you are greeted by vendor after vendor, each with wonderful goods to sell. We wanted to take some time to interview some hard-working vendors so that you can check out what they have to offer next time you are shopping online or going to a convention.

Our interview today is with Abnormal Hearts!

Could you introduce yourself and your brand?
Hello we are 3 siblings that started the company Abnormal Hearts! Our names are Adilene, Thaide, and Adolfo.

What is your origin story?
Cardiomyopathy runs in our family. Growing up we let this disease defy what we could do and who we were. We knew that we would die young because its all we knew. When Adilene received her first transplant in 2005 it gave us a ray of hope. In 2006 our way of life changed when Adolfo received his heart from a direct donation from his uncle. It was a hard process from going through a coma to being told he wouldn’t make it through the night multiple times We were able to push through it all. It thought us to look at things differently and Thaide still having the disease she learned to look beyond that sickness to become the person she is today. Despite the days where you wake up tired and shortness of breath is your best friend. Despite it all, we wanted to show the world that an Abnormal Heart isn’t a heart that is sick but a heart that gets up and fights no matter what comes at it.

We want to use our story to let others know they aren’t alone. To let everyone know that they can be much more than a diagnosis. May the story of our HEART inspire the fight in many. Heart disease, scars, and sickness will never stop your legacy. We design T-shirts and make art with popular anime series, villains, and heroes.  Art that is inspired by our heart conditions and our story.  We give our design a unique twist by adding organ hearts within the design and scars on some.

Out of all the content you have created, which is your favorite?
My favorite piece has to be my recent piece of Uravity. I’m in love with it.

What separates you from the rest?
What sets us apart is we love to give back. We donate 15% of our profits to help the nick and Kelly children’s heart fund.  we also use it to do random acts of kindness like buying donuts for departments at work or getting coffee for strangers etc. We recently held a raffle of one of our sticker bombed water bottles.  100% of the proceeds were donated to a local business affected by Covid19.  Our focus has always been to make a difference and give back. That makes us different.  We understand that by bringing smiles and joy to the community the rest will fall in place.
