Music: Good Guy Ghost
A heavy Metal band by the name of Ghost is currently on tour promoting their latest album, Meliora with both a signing and a live acoustic performance around the nation. Before I get more into the story, let me share their info with you:
Ghost (formerly known as Ghost B.C. in the United States) is a Swedish heavy metal band that was formed in Linköping in 2006.[1] In 2010, they released a 3-track demo followed by a 7″ vinyl titled “Elizabeth,” and later their debut full-length album Opus Eponymous. The Grammis-nominated album was widely praised and increased their popularity significantly. Their second album and major label debut Infestissumam was released in 2013, debuted at number one in Sweden, and won the Grammis Award for Best Hard Rock/Metal Album.
Ghost are easily recognizable because of their eccentric on-stage presence. Five of the group’s six members wear silver masks with horns and the vocalist appears wearing a skull mask and dressed as a “demonic anti-Pope”.[2] The band’s members keep their identities secret and their names have not been publicly disclosed; the vocalist calls himself Papa Emeritus and the musicians are referred to only as Nameless Ghouls.[2]
I have listened to a few Ghost songs on Spotify when they were still available and enjoyed them but never fully focused on their music, but I never had a bad experience with them. When I heard they were coming to the valley I got excited but was talked out of attending due to how crowded it would be. I can not tell you just how much I regret my decision because those who attended were able to experience something that I never that would happen: They were super chill and over the top with kindness. Typically my experience with American metal bands has been terrible and always let me down but I should have expected so much more from Ghost since they are from Sweden and my dealings with international bands has always been a positive experience(Amon Amarth are awesome by the way!)
With a band that looks like this:
Personally, I thought they would stay in character and try to be intimidating and creepy but in fact the opposite occurred. A good friend of mine by the name of Jenna had attended the signing with her young daughter,Emery, and fiance, all three were huge fans of Ghost and were excited to not only get the album but attend as well. Little Emery had been such a huge fan that she drew a picture for the band and presented it to them. How did they react? They loved it so much they signed it and posed for a picture! How fucking rad is that? I am blown away by the sheer awesome of Ghost and the way they interacted with their fans. I wish a million times over that I could have seen them in person in such an intimate setting.
At the end of the event they were treated to the live performance which this little one sang along like a true heavy metal fan girl.
Seriously though, Ghost is incredible for doing this and have definitely turned me from a casual listener to a big fan. Check out their website and their tour dates for when they stop by your town and give you a dose of the evil word!
