Nerd News with Bytes N’ Brews Episode 6: Hellboy, MIB: International, and Will Smith’s Genie
This week in Nerd News, we get of everyone’s favorite lovable scamp from Hell, followed by two unveilings of the modern era potentially trying to pull a fast one on us.
Hellboy
Yes! We’ve got our first official trailer of Hellboy, and holy bejesus does it look great! Tony may be worried about it because the trailer was too comedy based for him. But I think this is exactly what this reboot needs to be. We get a glimpse of a younger Professor Bruttenholm (Ian McShane), who seems to be taking on a more involved role as a monster hunter. I, for one, am all for this. I’m glad David Harbor is getting this big film for him to star in. And hell, I might even try his Hellboy workout regimen. And that shot of him slowly raising up out of the ground, with his crown of flames, while wielding a flaming Excalibur… SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!
Men In Black: International
So, we joked about this two weeks ago, but this week now, we have an actual trailer to discuss. Look, I’ll be the first to admit I have a man crush on Hemsworth. But even with my mild infatuation, I still don’t think this one looks good. At least not based on this trailer. I LOVE Men in Black. The first one was one of those DVDs that I used to fall asleep to and wake up to the menu screen repeating. Our ol Asgardian just isn’t doing it for me, in this. Men in Black has always been very comedy driven, and this one seems to be more of an action film first. Also, Hemsworth is made out to be the “best of the best of the best” in the trailer dialogue, but seems to fall short a lot just in the trailer. I don’t know. I’ll give it the benefit of the doubt and wait for another trailer, but this one shakes my faith in the series.
First Look at Aladdin’s Genie
I don’t know what to say about this. Another two beloved things from my childhood, Will Smith and Aladdin, teaming up. That should please me, but how are you going to release a shot of Will Smith as Genie, and not have him be blue‽ That’s has to be one of the biggest offenses I’ve seen in the film industry, since the entirety of Dragonball Evolution. Now, Smith has confirmed in a tweet that he will be blue in the movie. So, we’re assuming this is just Genie in his more human form, to blend in. We know you can do this, Guy Ritchie, don’t screw us on this.
