One Step Closer to Flying Cars: Future Tesla Roadster Might Hover
While Elon Musk has made some outrageous claims in the past–from firing a Tesla Roadster in Space to putting giant tubes in the ground for faster transportation–he seems to follow through with them all, no matter how crazy they sound. He’s created the same kind of excitement with his fans after announcing the future Tesla Roaster may be able to fly.
His prototype for the vehicle already has unbelievable specifications; it can drive 620 miles on one charge, can go from 0 to 60 mph in 1.9 seconds, and hits a top speed of 250 mph. Now, Musk announced on Twitter the Tesla Roadster will have rocket thrusters arranged around the car. These thrusters will aid in its top speed, acceleration, and cornering. He also added, “maybe they will even allow a Tesla to fly…”
SpaceX option package for new Tesla Roadster will include ~10 small rocket thrusters arranged seamlessly around car. These rocket engines dramatically improve acceleration, top speed, braking & cornering. Maybe they will even allow a Tesla to fly …

He went on to explain how it would be done: it would use the same kind of adapted cold gas thrusters that the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket uses.
What’s most surprising is the amount of time he’s said we would have to wait until we see this car; the prototype plans to be available to the public by the year 2020.
If you want the Tesla Roadster with the rocket thrusters, you can reserve it now with the “Space X package” at the amazingly low, low price of $250,000. The Roaster will also be available without the thrusters and can be reserved for $50,000.
Does anyone have a few hundred thousand dollars lying around they want to give?
