Online Gaming Dates – A Good Way to Hang Out Together in 2020?
With the pandemic still ongoing, it has been a lot harder this year to date, whether you’re looking to meet someone new or you’re dating someone already. Social distancing, events being canceled, and a lot of restrictions on which places are open, make finding somewhere fun to go and hang out together difficult. And with travel restrictions too in a lot of places, some people have found they haven’t been able to spend much time with people they would normally like to go on dates with at all.
Gaming Dates
One thing that some people have been doing is using virtual locations, for instance, places in MMOs, as venues for their dates. It was certainly talked about a lot a few months ago that teachers and companies were choosing to use locations in World of Warcraft to hold meetings or teach students, given the stability of their servers compared to a lot of online meeting systems which were struggling under the load, and the fact it was a bit more fun than using Zoom. It is no surprise then that a similar approach can be and is being used for dating and general social meetings.
But is it actually any fun, and how do you do it?
Hanging Out Rather Than Playing Hard
The important thing about this is that it’s a different feel to just playing online together. Rather than joining a game online together to compete or co-operate, you instead want to choose a game where you can actually wander around, explore, hang out and talk to each other, replacing things you’d do on a real date with things you can do in a virtual world while communicating with each other. This means that you want to choose open-world MMORPG type games rather than a MOBA or a head to head two player game, where you’ll be focusing more on playing the game than on hanging out together. That’s not to say playing MOBAs and things together isn’t also a good idea if you enjoy them, just that they’re a different experience to ‘going on a date’ in a game world.
Something like WoW or Elder Scrolls Online is ideal – there is plenty you can do if you want to go off and have an adventure, but you can also just have a laid back wander around the environment enjoying the setting together, without the constant need to focus on combat.

If you are single and so don’t already have someone to go on a date in a game world with, then there are of course all sorts of communities where you can meet other gamers, but one idea you may not have been aware of before is that there is actually a dating site just for gamers!
