Only The Brave Red Carpet Event
On Tuesday evening I had the pleasure of photographing my first red carpet event. The event was for the upcoming movie Only The Brave. The movie tells the story of the 19 Granite Mountain Hotshots who tragically lost their lives fighting a wildfire in Yarnell, Arizona in 2013.
This event was also the private screening for first responders and firefighters. It was held at the Harkins Theater at Tempe Marketplace.
Upon arriving it was packed with security and fans. While waiting for the event to start, a DJ from Whiskey Row provided music for the crowd. At 6:00 on the dot the music was cut and the event begin. Among the guests for that night were several of the film’s leading actors, the director, producers, and their significant others. The roster included the lone survivor of the Hotshots, Brendan McDonough, Miles Teller, Josh Brolin, James Badge Dale, Joseph Kosinski, and Dirks Bentley.
After everyone had walked out, Tara Hitchcock, a local TV personality, introduced the director and cast. A member of Budweiser was also introduced and presented a check for $20,000 to the Granite Mountain Fund to help support families who have lost their homes and loved ones to the wildfires, as well as assist the families in California who are battling the current wildfires. Josh Brolin took to the mic to say a few words about the film. This wasn’t just a movie for him, it hit close to home as he spend time as a volunteer firefighter in Arizona years ago. The director, Joseph Kosinski, stated a portion of the funds from the movie will also be donated to the Granite Mountain Fund as well.
I couldn’t have had a better first red carpet event. The staff were so kind and prompt. The cast was very polite to fans, taking selfies and signing memorabilia. And most importantly, in my opinion, everyone walking the red carpet were so polite to the media, pausing and looking at every photographer, then giving a gesture to make sure everyone got a good shot before they moved on. Only The Brave comes out October 20th. Make time to go see the film!
