Tidesiren Tackles Comic Con Palm Springs!
Hey you guys! Tidesiren here with a review of the fantastic convention, Comic Con Palm Springs! It was nothing less than amazing! So much went into this convention for me and I am glad I came out of it from family and friends coming down to visit and so much more! I really felt like this event was so grand that I came out with a renewed love for cons and cosplay.
Not to mention that I was a COSPLAY GUEST with a booth, panel, and everything!
So, keeping all that in mind, I will try to make a review that isn’t biased to how wonderful and happy this con was and made me. Marking only its second year, Comic Con Palm Springs is quickly rising in the convention community as an event to attend. Taking place at the Palm Springs Convention center, attendees are greeted and kept entertained with a marching band at the entrance and in line for con passes.
Last year, Comic Con Palm Springs floor was occupied by celebrity guest booths, vendors, artists, and in the far end, the food court…but this year, they just didn’t have enough room in the same space and had to expand. The food court was just inside the convention center and the con floor was taken up with vendors, artists booths, cosplayers, and celebrities as well! Panel rooms branched off the main hallway, which was lined with more booths as well. The convention center was great for this years occupancy, but with rapidly growing attendance, I predict that Comic Con Palm Springs may have to find a new venue in another year, or put a cap on their attendance. I have to say, it is incredibly exciting to see it continue to expand from being there its first time and I am excited to see it evermore.
Though convention center staff seemed confused as how to handle attendees versus VIPs or guests, the friendliness and helpfulness of CCPS volunteers and event staff really made up for it. I was approached several times by the director, after-party coordinator, and multiple volunteers and staff all thanking me for being there and asking me for pictures, my business cards, hugs, and even prints!
Fellow vendors were just as warm and welcoming! I was accompanied by familiar faces such as Leanna Vamp, Jamon Red, Reevzfx, D.C. Douglas, Onlyalicat, and of course the friendly faces of Super Sonic Speed Dating! Along with old friends, I got to make so many new ones like Michael Huffman, Mowsler, Raineemery, Harley Quinn SLC, Alexandria the Red, and SO many more!
Cosplay dresscode was pretty simple to follow. Weapons were allowed as long as they were safe, though they were a bit sticky about lightsabers. I think that is something they will eventually learn will be ok, especially as they grow, become more popular, and get booths like Ultrasabers at their event.
Ticket pricing is completely affordable compared to other comic cons, so as long as you can handle a little desert heat, It’s really a con to add to the annual list!
Upon leaving the green room, a back room for vendors and guests to go to re-hydrate and momentarily rest, as I went through the crowd back to my booth, I was stopped by someone who said they were a representative of the CW and that when they saw me speed by, much like my character, they saw me and had to come grab me and ask if I could stand with them at their booth for a while because my Supergirl cosplay was perfect and that I actually looked like the character in the tv show they air!
After my hour long panel about competition in cosplay, where the room was FILLED, my friend and I joined the CW booth as Supergirl and Monel to take photos with fans!
Everyone was so welcoming and kind! Comic Con Palm Springs has quickly made it into my top 5 cons I plan to annually attend and Comic Con Palm Springs 2017 has been one of my favorite events that I have attended since getting into cosplay! And thanks to CCPS, Supergirl is my favorite cosplay now too!
Thank you to Nerdvana and Comic Con Palm Springs for making me a cosplay guest and thank you to the Geek Lyfe for the opportunity to share my experience with you all!
Tidesiren is a fantastic cosplayer based in Colorado. She has an absolute love for all things geeky, gaming, and food! When she isn’t being a super dope cosplayer, she can usually be found running off on adventures that would give others heart attacks! In the year of 2017 she covered nine conventions both national and international for us! We’re so grateful to have her on our team to cover conventions!
