Now more than ever, the onus lies on us to stay at home to stay safe. Of course, you might start getting incredibly bored due to this prolonged disruption of your daily routine. For those who are social butterflies, it is even more challenging. But what if you didn’t have to be bored? Well, there are fun things you can do indoors to reduce that feeling, and below are eight of them. Home should not be synonymous with boring and these activities will help make that possible.

  1. Throw an at-home picnic

Under normal circumstances, a picnic is an informal social gathering that is hosted in a natural outdoor setting. Picnic participants may bring their own food and drinks. However, since the coronavirus pandemic has turned the world upside-down, stay-at-home orders may not permit you to host a picnic outside. But that doesn’t mean you can’t entertain yourself. This time around, throw a wonderful picnic within the confines of your home and stay safe from Covid-19. It can be a family entertainment session that will see you spread a picnic table to have fun with your immediate loved ones. Guess who will love this best of all – the kids!

  1. Schedule a movie night

Movies are the most common way of entertainment, and it’s not going anywhere. It’s so popular because of the many genres and all the different emotions they evoke. All you’ll need to do is watch a trailer, and you can tell if it’s for you or not. The only problem is that if you’ve not subscribed to streaming service, you may have to fetch movies from your computer hard disk. Watching movies offline is not such a bad idea because it reduces your internet bills and also saves you from poor internet connections which often disrupt your experience. The best way to stock your PC with endless movie archives is to purchase an external hard drive. This is a handy USB-powered storage device that facilitates digital file transfer. External hard drives can be connected to Windows PCs and MacBooks. There’s a good article on bestexternalharddrives.com that lists the best Mac-compatible external hard drives.

  1. Play board games with your family and friends

Another way to make indoor life more interesting is to play board games. Dice and card games can be fun, especially when you play with your family and friends. They stimulate your intelligence and make you feel like a geek. Board games like Ticket and Catan; you can’t get bored. Step out for a trip to the games store, and you’ll find a variety of board games to make your day. But if that isn’t possible, there’re online versions that you can still play with others. One advantage of these games is that players can interact with participants while the show goes on. Moreover, people with little to no experience can also partake in the competition.

  1. Play computer games

After board games, computer games come second. Unfortunately, most senior family members may not have a flair for PC and mobile games. But if you’re computer savvy, and can play FIFA (soccer) and mobile games like Subway Surfers, you should have a good time staying at home. On Google PlayStore and Apple AppStore, there are tons of other mobile games that can keep you entertained on your Android or iOS device.

  1. Read a book

Reading makes you smarter; after all, it’s said that “all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.” But that does not mean that you should spend 24 hours playing games. No! Reading a book is a productive activity, and at the same time, a source of entertainment. It all depends on whether you’re reading fiction or nonfiction books. For business-minded people, you may want to increase your financial literacy, while self-help books are a great idea if you’re looking to improve yourself generally.  Online resources have taken books to the doorsteps of voracious readers. Now you can also listen to audiobooks on platforms like Audible, and book-summary apps like Blinkist.

  1. Take a yoga class

If yes, then it’s high time you started a vlog channel on YouTube or maybe on Instagram. You can either buy a digital camera or use your smartphone and start recording your daily life activities. Have fun telling the world about interesting things you do at home and outside your home. This is another way to entertain yourself and also make money living your normal life.

  1. Play music and dance with your family and friends

What’s life without music? As the saying goes, “music is food for the soul”. It’s also food for the ears. Good music has a way of taking your mind off things and giving you a good time. It doesn’t matter the genre you prefer be it hip-hop, reggae, pop, R&B, or cool. Set up loudspeakers in your home and hold a dancing competition with your family and friends, in person, or virtually.

But with so many options to choose from, your at-home life may still be boring if you don’t know the best way to entertain yourself.
