A Tale of Two Streamers: Amouranth & Dr. Disrespect

Many of us dream of having a successful Twitch channel with a loyal fan base who support almost everything you do. A lot of us wouldn’t ever dare risk something like that if we were ever blessed with such an opportunity because surely if we break the rules, Twitch would punish us…right? However, that isn’t quite the case for two Twitch streamers by the name of Amouranth & Dr. Disrespect who constantly flirt with Twitch bans.

Dr. Disrespect is one of the most popular streamers around, infamous for his banter and skill at FPS games. He is absolutely no stranger to the hot seat as he has had a lot of drama in his Twitch career. Most recently being him filming inside a public restroom while doing a live stream at E3.

YouTuber ShipShiro does a great job of explaining the situation and you can see for yourself that there are multiple people in the restroom at the time of the stream. For this incident, he received a 14 day ban on his channel that has literally over 3 million followers. If that wasn’t bad enough, he also got his E3 badge revoked. Which is all fair since he broke the rules and he got punished. Just yesterday his ban was lifted and he is back in action to the joy of many fans.

On the other hand we have Miss Amouranth, also a famous Twitch streamer known for her IRL streams, Just Dance, and ASMR streamers. Though smaller than Dr. Disrespect, she still has over a million followers so she is a very big fish on the streaming platform. On a recent IRL stream where she walked into a store and was point blank asked by staff if she was filming, because it is not allowed. In response, Amouranth lied and said she was video chatting.

This is a clear invasion of privacy in a public space and yet nothing came of this by Twitch. In fact this isn’t the first time that she has done things either some what violate Twitch Community Guidelines or completely does it. Many in the community are baffled as to why she continues to get away with such violations especially when some one much larger than her like Dr. Disrespect immediately gets shut down for his actions.
The last time that Amouranth had been banned was in 2018 when she chose to do another IRL stream in a gym and filmed herself acting like Shia LaBeouf in his ‘Just Do It’ motivational meme/video. Even in this incident her ban was less than 24 hours.

What is tragic about this is that there is a clear special treatment. If two streamers commit acts that violate Twitch Guidelines then they should both receive bans. Yes, you can argue that Dr. Disrespect‘s actions were worse because it was a public restroom but at the same time, Amouranth literally lied about streaming when asked. No, she shouldn’t get a 14 day ban but she should get some form of punishment.

We are so used to celebrities receiving special treatment on a daily basis as they are so above commoners such as you or I but when something like this happens, it is almost cringe worthy to wonder why these two streamers are treated differently.
