Who are you?
Hi there! My name is Sara and I’m the artist behind StitchinVixenStudio Plushies & Collectibles.
What is your origin story?
I was a cosplayer going by the handle AquaVixen, but wanted to dive into a slightly different art form. I found a plushie maker and fell in love with her work. I found out she made patterns of her plushies so I decided to give it a shot myself! Currently, I use patterns from 2 different pattern makers, BeeZeeArt, and Choly Knight. One day I want to make patterns of my own too though!
You have such an incredible style that is uniquely your own. What advice do you wish you received when you were just starting out?
I wish I could have been told that it’s ok to fail. If something doesn’t quite turn out how you wanted it to, it’s not the end of the world. I know I had a pattern I tried out that I ended up not particularly liking and wasted a bunch of fabric on. But in the end it was a learning experience and I think I’ll still make them in the end.
You have incredible works of art but what would you say is your own personal favorite piece and why?
I think my favorite piece right now are the Calcifer Fire Demon plushies from Howls Moving Castle. He’s so expressive and super fun to make for me.
A lot of geeks suffer from self-esteem issues. Although you are so awe-inspiring to the masses, I wonder, when you find yourself questioning your own worth what do you do to remind yourself that you are wonderful?
I know I definitely have a lot of self-esteem issues personally and some days are harder than others. But I remember my friends who have supported me asking the way and have given me such confidence boosts as well. I wouldn’t be where I am today without their support.
Where can folks find your art online?
I have a Facebook page at www.facebook.com/sarasewsplushies or an Etsy store at www.etsy.com/shop/StitchinVixenStudio My Etsy store is currently in vacation because I’m in the process of moving but will have it back up soon.
