Just In – Total Biscuit Announces Terminal Disease and End of Axiom
Fellow geeks, it pains me to write this article for I am a huge Total Biscuit fan. If you are unfamiliar with who he is, know that his influence in the geek community is vast. He talks on various podcasts, participates in game reviews and informative articles, creates content for Polaris events such as Guns of Icarus and the ongoing Civil War event. He has also taken the geek community and a number of topics with genuine interest. While Sky Williams and the Game Grumps create content for entertainment via penis jokes, Total Biscuit did research, voiced his rational opinions, and gave us accurate information over the years. The man has integrity, intelligence, and style.
Nine hours ago Total Biscuit tweeted this:
“Well, I don’t know if there is really a right way to tell people this, so I guess here goes. The CT did not come back negative. The cancer in the bowel is gone, but spots have appeared in my liver. They’re not operable and there’s no cure. Average life expectancy is 2-3 years, though there are outliers that live much longer. I’ll be back on chemo in a few weeks, with the goal of pushing it back and keeping it there for as long as possible. I fully intend to be the outlier, the average is this way because most people that get this are old and not strong anymore. Who knows what they’ll come up with in the next decade? I intend to beat it for as long as possible. Gonna need some time to process all of this. I don’t really feel anything right now. Thanks” Via
As a fan, I knew he faced a feel medical issues but everything seemed to be going well. When this news hit I was caught off guard, it seemed even more real when his fellow content creator, Dodger, streamed and began her session by acknowledging this information and informing everyone that “it was a somber day” and that “I considered whether or not to stream because of this…”. With the information provided in the tweet, we know his life expectancy is 2 to 3 years. The gods know us fans shall pray that Valhalla will not welcome him just yet and in these two years, we are at his side to help support him through this time whether through donating or participating in whatever events he wishes.
A few hours later he announced that his eSports team, Axiom, has been shut down. After 3 years of competitive gaming, the decision to close their doors was made due to a shift in the gaming scene, forcing them out of tournaments they were used to and shoved into other tournaments where they were outmatched.
All good things must come to an end. I thought I’d have to make this announcement eventually but I hoped it wouldn’t be this year. It’s a hard day for geeks everywhere to know that one of the best and our brightest faces the biggest boss battle of his life. Although we might feel powerless do to anything, know that our greatest strength comes from supporting Total Biscuit and appreciating him in every way.
