Mac and Cheese Festival 2017

Mac and Cheese Festival 2017

At some point, some where, some people decided that it would be a grand idea to hold an event that celebrated mac and cheese. These people are what we call geniuses and should be regarded

as saints. We were blessed to attend the 2017 Mac and Cheese festival held at the Scottsdale Waterfront. Deegan and I, Darth Mexican, ran up and down the waterfront to sample an incredible amount of mac and cheese all from different businesses and in different styles.

When it comes to the mac and cheese we had so many great combinations such as lobster mac and cheese, mac and cheese with jalapenos, pizza mac and cheese, brisket mac and cheese and so many more. The businesses selling such glorious creations were Taste of New Mexico, Slate Bistro and Bar, Pizzario, Salut Kitchen Bar, Ohso Brewery, Old Town Gringos just to name a few. Personally, I thought the Hatchet Mac and Cheese by Old Town Gringos was my favorite! It had a hint a spice with a savory taste that was could be considered addicting with too much exposure.

Various beer vendors were in full force to help wash down all the great food like Golden Road Brewing company, Elysian Brewing Company, Ohso Brewery. Among them, Deegan loved Golden Road Brewing Company’s Pineapple beer the most. “The beer was light, but had a nice fruity aroma. Upon tasting it you could tell it was a fruit beer but the pineapple didn’t overwhelm your taste buds.”

During the festival there were musicians and events going on to entertain everyone while they drank and ate. The mac and cheese festival was such a hit that they had to cut off entry due to being completely sold out. They actually acknowledge this on their website where they are offering all attendees from this year 20% off next year’s tickets! Kudos to them for responding to concerns!

It was a such a hit that vendors had to pack up early due to running out of supplies which is both a great and terrible problem to have. By 3:00pm we saw a few vendors leave which was disappointing because if you pay for a $15 ticket and even more money for food and drink tickets, it is expected that you would have access to all of the vendors. Lines for admission and any food/drink were long although this is bound to happen with any popular event.

There was a lack of water spot which is concerning due to having an outdoor event. When you would pay for a drink you were expected to have a plastic cup given to you at the entrance otherwise had to use a very small cup that vendors ran out of half way through the event. This event was not perfect but it has so much potential that I do believe it is worth attending next year.

Families were there with little ones and others brought pets. The food was delicious, the beer was crisp and refreshing, despite the mishaps, it was a fun event! I do hope they hold it again next year!
