Music Lyfe: Interview with An Awful Mess

We got the chance to reach out to local Arizona band, An Awful Mess, for an interview on them and their group!

The Geek Lyfe: Who are you?

AAM: We are An Awful Mess.

TGL: What is your origin story?

AAM: We started up during the last moments of a previous band called Starcross. We started demoing out some old songs we had written, not sure if it was going to go anywhere. We started getting inspired to write new stuff and then we just needed a name. Honestly, we started thinking about what would best capture the feeling that our songs express as well as something that would be entertaining to say.

TGL: What separates you from the rest?

AAM: Honestly, we just make music that we enjoy. We have two singers that bring a similar enough energy but with two distinct personalities. We’ve written stuff from electropop to acoustic to pop-punk and even post-hardcore. In old projects, we ended up being put in a box, either by what people expected or after just writing ourselves in a corner. This time it’s all or nothing. Everything is on the table, and nothing is off-limits.

TGL: Out of all the content you have created, which is your favorite?

AAM: Well right now we only have one music video out for our single “Going Nowhere”, a promo video for our show on March 6th, and some other little teaser things. We have a new song dropping soon which is probably even better than our first single. It’s definitely faster and edgier, but still has some of the pop sensibilities of the first single.

TGL: How can folks support you?

AAM: BUY A T-SHIRT. We’re funding everything ourselves so every little bit counts! We have a couple of designs on a ton of different items on Teespring. Also, come out to our shows! We’ve got a couple planned and some stuff we haven’t announced yet.

TGL: Where can we find you online?

AAM: Every social media platform known to man and most digital retailers.

Be sure to check out their show coming on March 6th at Club Red featuring a roster of other awesome bands!
