The Overdue Review Of WWE 2K20 (PC)

The world of professional wrestling and gaming share a far wider range of attributes than you might first think. They both offer a chance to suspend your disbelief in a world of fantasy filled with larger than life characters. WWE 2K20 actually made its grand entrance back in October 2019, but it continues to kick some serious butt.

So, we thought we’d give you the 1-2-3 on 2K’s latest installment of the WWE gaming franchise.

Appearances

Vince McMahon’s Worldwide Wrestling Entertainment is all about excess and bright lights. It is something that 2K Sports has captured extremely well from the moment your superstar’s music hits the titantron. At times, you can forget you’re playing and feel like you’re watching TV.

The game boasts a bigger roster than ever before, with over 250 playable wrestlers in total. Whether it’s a modern star, such as The Fiend, or an old legend like Batista doesn’t matter. Every muscle, bead of sweat, and outfit make you feel closer to the action than ever.

Games that focus on combat are notoriously challenging from the mechanical aspects. After all, the esthetic of each move is hugely influenced by the size of the wrestlers and the space between them. The occasional glitch, such as lifting an opponent so that they levitate, does happen. All in all, though, it is the most realistic looking WWE game ever.

Gameplay

The gameplay of WWE games has been widely criticized for many years, even before 2K took the reins. In truth, it’s hard to imagine a time when players will be thrilled. Without sugarcoating the obvious gameplay issues, our view is that many of the criticisms are harsh.

Hardcore wrestling fans may crave authenticity, which is fine. However, most casual wrestling fans and non-wrestling fans will have a lot of fun. After all, what could be better than hurling a digital 7ft Big Show off of the Hell in a Cell?

It gives you a chance to live out your fantasies of laying the Smackdown on someone. Each aspect (striking, grappling, submissions) are like mini gameplay features within a bigger game. Unlike some of the retro wrestling games, matches last longer than two minutes too. Therefore, when you win, it actually feels like an achievement.

Longevity

Aside from the huge roster, WWE 2K20 offers multiple match types. There’s tag matches, Royal Rumbles, Elimination Chambers, brawls, cage matches, TLCs, and more. Moreover, the career mode and option to relive the most important era in women’s wrestling keep the fun going too.

Online competitions return with the iconic WWE Lobby. We’d advise finding the cheapest VPS to ensure you get the best out of those modes. While the online arena isn’t as densely populated as it was upon release, you won’t be waiting long for a match up.

While it’s unlikely that you’ll be playing 2K20 in five years’ time, it’s sure to provide months of digital wrestling entertainment. It’s also available at a discounted rate, ensuring it offers excellent value for money. The true beauty, though, is that you do not need to know your Matt Hardys from your Matt Riddles to have a lot of fun.
